Wayfinding Signs
Wayfinding signs – Principles
Wayfinding signs serve the function of informing visitors of their surroundings in the unfamiliar build environment.
It is important to show clearly information at strategic points to guide people into the right directions. Complex structures in the build environment need to be simplified and interpreted so they can be stored in the human memory. Distances, locations and time may be remembered than as they appear to me in reality.
An effective wayfinding system should be based on human behaviour and consists of the following features:
- People should not have to think
- The design should be comprehensive, clear with a consistent visual communication system and concise messaging
- Simplify the details required
- Only show information that is relevant to space, location and navigation path
- Remove unnecessary detail
- Create a clear, simple environment
